It's All About Part Time Job..

This is my experience about working as part time worker. I wanna tell you since long! It was fun and unforgettable. I had many experiences with this. First time i worked as part time was at my campus hotel, EDC. It was in June 2008..all students were going back to their country and to have the most kind Dad on earth..i wasn't allowed to go back x(  So in the sad and hopeless feeling..i was looking what to do during the holiday. It's like..i know i should worked..but i don't have any idea since the campus was a new place for me. Some seniors said that i should worked in EDC..our campus hotel.. And i was looking for a place to stay in holiday as well.. During the semester break, all dormitories are closed. So the one and only way was to stay at apartment. Apartment is another kind of hostel to stay but it's separated from dormitories. It's not kind of dormitories that have many strict regulations. It's more free like your own house. It is all yours..you can stay there as long as the contract finished. I heard there were some seniors who didn't go back..so i asked if i can stay with them. Then voila! we stayed together in one room: Kak Juwi, Me, Rani, Deka and Luli. Thanks to Fita, for your lovely-nice-apartment! It was nice..to stay together..we didn't really know each other before..so it makes our relations closer.

So, i started my first part time journey in EDC. It was like excited! I couldn't imagine how to work in a hotel as waitress. It was totally a new experience for me. I had to wear white formal shirt, black trousers and also  black shoes. Look at my shoes...it's so formal! And same with Kak Juwita! xD
Kak Juwita and I

Well, worked in EDC was totally a new kind of thing. I was there cleaning all the spoons and forks. Oh ya, i was in the food and beverage team. Firstly, when you came to office you have to write down your arrival time. The payment is based on hour..per hour..was i heard..RM 3 at that time. It was quiet big, you know since we live in a jungle xD No place to work.. So i was sitting there..cleaning all the spoons with hot water..yeah you have to clean them until all the spoons clean. It was like..a big washbasin..full of spoons and forks..and you have to soak it in the water for some time. Then took it out and drained it with the cloth. I was sitting there for hours.. I just realized that hotel has many kinds of spoons and forks. It has the biggest, big, medium and small. Each of them is placed based on its sizes. After all the spoons and forks got cleaned, i put them at their compartment. It was at the back of my cleaning place. For some times, i realized this is how hotel works. How they clean the stuffs and eating utensils. So i know if later i get the dirty spoons. I know how they do their work. After cleaning, the manager asked me to go out and organized the table. It would be the lunch time so we had to prepare all the things. I learned how to brought many plates and put the eating utensils based on their position. It was fun that i know the process.

We were almost finished when Kak Juwita said to me she wanna see the hotel rooms. Quietly, we took the lift and went upstairs. We arrived and saw some rooms were being cleaned. We met a house-keeper girl and chatted with her. Apparently, she was the daughter of the owner! She was asked by her Mom to work there cuz she wanted to take major of hospitality later. She would like to know first how it is. When i ask how much she get paid, i was amazed. Cuz she got the same rate with us..RM 3/hour. Wow! She was amazing! How can you work in a hotel of your mom and get the same payment with others? Her Mom must be so strict and she must has a big heart. Her name is Nadya. She was still in high school that time. But i think it's a good way to teach children about how to get money. She must be taught how to work and be discipline.

And we went back around 6 PM. Finally after a full day of work. It was difficult to get the transportation from EDC to go to inside campus. EDC hotel is located outside our campus. And we have to take the bus  to go back to the inside. Then we were waiting for Mara Liner bus which can bring us to home. While waiting for the slow bus, i took the opportunity to take picture around EDC..at every spot..i mean x)

 Crazy Part Time Girl xD

Then suddenly a car stopped by. The woman inside the car asked us to join her. With our pleasure we jumped in the car without asking more. On the way, she said that she thought we were Law School Students since we wore white and black clothes. On Monday, all Law Students wear that uniform. xD So we were lucky! To get someone who can dropped us. And, at home, we were laughing and thankful for what we've got.

EDC was just once in a lifetime chance. I mean you can't always work there. They call you when they need part time worker. So in the spare time, i looked for another job. I heard that we can work as lab assistant in computer lab. So i asked for that. My senior, Rani said that we had Indonesian student who also worked there. It was a hot sunny day when we were waiting for the confirmation of him. He came by bicycle and told me to meet the supervisor. It was TNB Dormitory lab where the first time i worked as lab assistant. I met the supervisor and told him the slot that i wanted. Then, finally i worked there! It was kind of excited the first time cuz i have the whole lab by me. I can do anything. There were only a few students..so i just do online all day. It turned out that the guy who worked as lab assistant as well..was my senior! He was the multimedia student. Well, i just changed course from Social Work to Multimedia..so he's my senior already. I didn't know him. We have never met before. Sometimes he teased and disturbed me in the lab. He was also usually asked me to buy food for him when i worked at MAS Dormitory.  Haha. That time, only a few shop which opened during semester break. I worked full day from 8.30 until 11 at night. Then, since the place is quiet far from my apartment, i went there by bicycle. And i worked as lab assistant for the whole semester break. Sometimes i changed dormitory..from MAS to TNB..to Proton..and many others. It depended on your schedule. The other friends..Rani and Luli worked at C-Mart Changlun while Deka and Kak Juwi worked at UPSB at our university.

Second, my work as caterer. Whoo, it was fun! And well paid. After worked in EDC for twice.. i got another job from my senior, Luli. She was invited by the person in charge. It was the job as caterer for new student's orientation. We went to the place early in the morning at 4 AM. My job was to put all the foods in the lunch pack. Take the ready food and put it there. Also prepared all the foods including take the hot-yummy-chicken and put it inside the plastic. So we divided the tasks who was the one dealing with the rice, the meats, the vegetables and so on. It was fun that we can work together. We gather hand in hand to finish the job. Oh ya, the job paid me RM 5/hour. Good paid! Then we went back to home in the evening..by pick up car xD This was the second time i got on pick up car. The most awesome thing is when you stand on the car and feel the breeze of the wind. xD And laughed with your friends x) Also working in catering allowed you to bring food back home. Where else the place could be like this? xD

Caterer Gank

 Bring so much food x))

Third, we got the chance again to work full day in one big event. It was event related with fire fighter event..if i am not mistaken. It was after this catering job. I also got this opportunity from my senior, Kak Pompom. Finally, let's get it started! I worked as waitress..again. Not only waitress but i also worked at kitchen. I prepared the dessert with carrots, cucumbers and so on. I know how the dessert made for the event. It was..hard to tell you. We didn't have any clean table. And..i was felt guilty when i imagine the guests ate these.. but i don't have any choice.. I worked with Winda, another new friend. Then after prepared all the stuffs, we have to stand and serve the guests for the whole night. I thought my legs almost broken. It's like we stood..watched..served the guests when they asked for more drink.. It was totally exhausting. I was stood in the corner. And we have our own guests field.. After finishing.. there were many foods left.. almost every table left the food..the main course.. the delicious fish.. And we ate some of them..of course the untouched one xD But i think the touched one would be okay xP

The Part Time Ladies

After finished all the tasks..including cleaning the hall.. we got the money.. The boss gave it to Kak Pompom and she gave it to us. It was RM 65. So many! I would like to work there again! x)

The fabulous jobs were over. Then I went to Kuala Lumpur for having fun.  I spent much money xD Yes, work hard, play hard x))

Fourth, volunteer at MASUM. MASUM stands for Majelis Sukan Universiti Malaysia or (Assembly of Malaysian Sports Universities). It was held in May 2009. I joined this event cuz again..i didn't go back to home in semester break. That year, UUM (my university) was the host for this big event. There were many sports competed in this event. And i have applied as the volunteers. It was around 14 days. The volunteers need to chose for two sports only.  Volunteers got paid and accommodation..so i thought it would be perfect.

Athletic sport in MASUM 2009

I started to work in the end of May and before that..i just waited for this job. Then, the first competition was started: basketball. Why did i choose basket ball? Cuz i love this sport. It was my favorite since junior high school. I can stand watching people play basket ball. And i never missed any of the episodes of NUVO Kobatama Basketball competition in ANTV TV Station years ago. It was memorable. The game that i most remember in MASUM was USM (Universiti Sains Malaysia) vs UMT (Universiti Malaysia Trengganu). The players from USM were awesome. And I was amaze to see the beautiful movements. I love to watch the games. And so sad..UMT was defeated by USM. They need to practice more, though.

The second sport that i chose was cricket. Yes, cricket! Have you ever heard of this sport? It is similar to baseball but with some different rules. I went to Alor Star for this games cuz the field was only provided in one of high schools in Alor Star. For your information, Alor Star is the capital city of Kedah. So it's big and crowded! xD The games was mostly played by the Bangladesh..players from my university, UUM. The judge and referee were Malaysian Indians. No wonder, cuz this sport is famous played in India and the surrounding countries. During the break, we went to the Pacific Mall in Alor Star..just for sight-seeing. We enjoyed the crowd of big mall. Then we came back to the games. Our tasks were simple..we sat there to  prepare the equipment, help the players and referees, and other help-thing. Oh ya, i got RM 250 for this job.. it wasn't much but since it covered accommodation and half of the meal cost, so it was okay. We were five volunteers who involved in cricket, me and four of Malaysian friends: Kak Mira, Kak Nana, Kak Bein and Kak Ana. They were kind and friendly. Not only that, but we also close with the judges and referees as well. At the end of event, we had meal together and we gave souvenirs for them. One of the man always called me "Agnes Monica" cuz i'm from Indonesia. Agnes Monica is the famous Indonesian Singer. Maybe he adores Agnes Monica xb

Fifth, I came back to work as lab assistant in December 2009. It was a hectic schedule. I moved from one lab to another to get the full slots cuz i wanna save money for traveling. It was around two weeks i worked around 210 hours. Wow xD I was tired..but when i think that i can use this money for traveling..i become motivated to work. My work was doing nothing..just listen to Radio PPI Dunia . And chatted with my friends.. I worked in Muamalat Dormitories..Petronas..and many more. Oh ya, basically our job is to sit on the computer and help people if they want to print.. or have problem with the computer. So, it's easy, right? Since there were no students as well. Usually i worked for the whole day.. 15 hours..

After saving money..i went to Singapore! For two weeks my income was around RM 420 with the rate RM 2/hour. It was enough to travel around Singapore for one day. We went to KL and Johor as well before. Trip to Singapore brought me to Science Center, Marina Bay, Bugis Street and many more. I was happy cuz i wanted to go to Singapore since long time. And it all paid after hard work.

Science Center in Singapore

In 2010, i continued to work as lab assistant. This is a favorite job since it's easy and flexible. You can do it while you are free. I worked in the busy and tight schedule in last semester. And, apparently, this job brought me to KLM's Royal Dutch Airlines Business Class. Yeah, i got the business class seat! It was a coincidence.. but i think it was meant to be.. So me and my friends checked in at the time when the gate almost closed. Yeah, the system has been closed. And when the staff gave me the boarding pass.. i was screamed that he said.. "Business class.." Awww! I was surprised. I didn't know how it could be. But my friend said it's because the economy class' system has been closed. We should check in at least 1 hour before the departure. So our tickets have been upgraded. Totally, it's our luck or destiny ;) I was happy since i bought the ticket by myself x) I bought it using my lab assistant's salary. It brought me to one of the business class seat in high class airlines! x) I was blessed for that.. Well, for you who study abroad, it is strongly recommended to find a part time job. It helps you to manage yourselves, get the additional income and train you to be a fast learner and be quick in response.

It can bring you to many things as well. You will meet people and have larger networks. And of course, you can appreciate more about the money that you got. Since it is all from your own sweat ;)

See ya!

Him: Do you know why they are dragging themselves from us?
Me: I don't really know, actually.
Him: Just say what's on your mind..
Me:  Well, i'mnt sure. But probably.. is because your skin colour..
Him: Skin colour? I think it's not..We have Indian as well..
Me:Yeah..but they are not used to see black people here..foreigner.. They live in their own country. They have their own group..
Him: But i don't think it's because of the skin..
Me: Yeah..but do you know the issue between people here? They're not really friend with Indian..
Him: Mm-hmm..
Me: There's issue between races here..Malay, Chinese and Indian..
Him: Ha..i know..
Me: They say..1 Malaysia..but i don't know when it will happen..
Him: I know..
Me: But you can't blame them you know.. They live in their country..so they only care with their people.. Some of them are afraid of you. And also that's why many people say it's nice to make friend with Indonesians. Cuz Indonesia people are nice and friendly. And i can say this because i had lived abroad. I have gone to Africa. I make friends with different people.. You, how if you live in your country and you have foreigner?
Him: No..no..we don't do like that..we have Whites there..even some children touch them like a friend..
Me: Well, this is a remote state..it's different in KL..people will greet you there..
Him: Aha..
Me: You, may i ask you one question?
Him: Mm-hmm..
Me: Why your people are always being alone? You don't really socialize with others?
Him: Aha..
Me: I have friend..and he's just do his PhD works..he marries his book..he doesn't socialize..I don't think he has friend..
Him: It's not about that..you know.. Do you know how many oceans and rivers to cross to here? From my country to Malaysia?
Me: Many..
Him: Yeah..
Him: That's why..we come here to study.. we don't want to waste time..We greet..we play but then we come back to study..
Him: And people from this continent think that we're here to make difference..
Me: Mm-hmm..
Him: And i know some people have given a bad name to this country..
Me: Really?..
Him: Yeah..
Him: And one more, to stay in here for average people it's expensive..
Me: What's your currency?
Him: Mmm..1 ringgit equal to 5 Naira..
Me: What can i buy with 5 Naira?
Him: Well, a bread.. but it's not enough for you..
Me: So, it's not expensive..
Him: A bread for a boy..But it's still expensive..
Me: Okay..
Him: Hey, Do you have night club here?
Me: Haha.. (Laughing out loud in heart)  No..
Him: Yeah.. i miss my night club..
Me: Yeah..you miss it for sure.. What do you usually do there?
Him: We dance..grind..talk..
Me: Haha.. yeah..
Him: You know, that's the first thing i googled when i come here..I googled.. "Night Club in Alor Star.."
Me: Haha.. (laughing out loud in heart.. again)
Him: But i didn't find any..
Me: You won't find it..This is an islamic state.. you won't find in any places.. For them night club is a bad place.. it's not good..
Him: Really?
Me: But you can find in KL..in Bukit Bintang area..or in Penang the nearest..
Him: Oh.. so do you know where in Penang?
Me: No.. i've never been to night club in Penang.
Him: Mm-hmm..
Me: So, i have to go now..
Him: Okay..let me go with you..

So, hope all your questions answered ;) But, there's one question..Where's night club in Alor Star? x)

Cheers,
Chandini

When i wake up every day..

Indonesia Greatness

These are the Indonesia Greatness:

1. Irwan Ahmett

He is creatively genius. Basically, he's a graphic designer but the thing that makes him different is the way he does his job. He initiated some projects that involve people about life and surrounding. The first project that  interests me is "Change Yourself!" in 2005 till 2007. It's a project to motivate people to start for a change. Any kind of changes for improving your life. It can start from a small change that has big impact to the current life. It can be anything. Remove your tattoo,  think positive, say hi to God, lose your weight, cut your hair and many more. It has promoted in three big cities in Indonesia: Jakarta, Bandung and Yogyakarta. This campaign received good response from people especially youngsters. Many of them found this project to change their life to be better.

Irwan Ahmett on Tedx Jakarta (2010)

The second project is Urban Play. He created creative games to play in the crowded Jakarta. With his creative mind, he changed the infrastructure, pollution, to be something that fun to be played.  He conducted a game with the hot air pollution, tortured public service, seller in the market and citizens . He created 9 plays to make people aware about the beauty and tragically humorous Jakarta. There is one play that interesting for me called Sweaty Map. It is a play that shows the hot temperature of Jakarta weather can be transformed into a cool T-shirt. The thing that he made is a T-shirt of the sweat pattern written on it 35 Celsius degree. It is because the normal temperature that Jakarta got is around 35 Celsius degree. The pattern of sweat is on the part of chest and armpit. It's so funny xD I think it would be the cool souvenir from Jakarta. The Urban Play is not only played in Jakarta but also in other country, such as Poland, UK, Turkey and Netherlands. He does all his projects with his lovely wife, Tita Salina. If you are interested to look out for more information about Irwan Ahmett, go to Irwan Ahmett's personal website.

2. Nia Dinata

She's an inspiring director from Indonesia. Her films have reflected the other side of Indonesia's situation. About homosexuality, polygamy, minority races, lesbian, and many more. Yes, they are controversial but yet successful. Many of her films has screened in international film festival award, such as Berbagi Suami (Sharing Husband) in New York's Tribeca Film Fesrival. Arisan! (The Gathering) won the MTV Indonesia Movie Award that makes her as the best director in 2004 and also the best film in Cinemasia Dilm Film Festival in Netherlands. She's matured and passionately live her life through film. She can see the potential story taken from everyday life. A film produced by her, Quickie Express, is the most interesting one for me. It's the best-silly-joking film ever! It is a sex comedy film but the conflict existed in the story is real life conflict. Oh ya, she's not only a director but as well as producer, and screen writer. She has found her own film production named, Kalyana Shira, which has helped to accomplish some of her dreams project. I've met her once in @america, the America cultural center in Jakarta. She delivered a talk about film specifically on the Theme of 10th Year Kalyana Shira Film Production. She also talked about her new launching movie at that time, Arisan 2!, along with the casts, Cut Mini and Aida Nurmala.

It was nice to listen to her thought about film industry in Indonesia and South East Asia. One of her statement, i still remember, that during her college she was asked to take some free elective courses which is not related with her degree. Then she chose to take course related with film making cuz it is her favorite. Even though she was studying mass communication but she was interested in film already. She said, "I don't want to go to a class that i don't understand. It's better for me to take class which will give the food to my soul." She also said there is a different between career and passion. And to know your passion is a long journey that she feels bless for living on her passion now. After the session finished, there was a photo session. Some students have taken place to take picture with her. I thought she would be quiet long then i chased for another celebrity, Cut Mini.  After a while, she's gone already! I promise that i will look for her next time since i adore her soo much like i adore Yasmin Ahmad.  Though, i took picture with Cut Mini and Mba Ucu Agustin. Mba Ucu Agustin is the screen writer for the documentary film project "Batik is My Love Story". I  interviewed her on the same day.

This is an interview held by Whiteboard Journal with Nia Dinata. You can take a look about her perceptions towards public opinion on her films.

                                        Nia Dinata on Whiteboard Journal

Oh ya, i keep an article newspaper about her. It's like i cut it from pages and bring it everywhere. Cuz i wanna be like her, really.

Nia Dinata on "Kompas"

3. Joko Anwar

Don't get me wrong, if i choose people from film industry as The Indonesia Greatness. Since i love this industry and i think Indonesia has good potential in film industry. The third man is, Joko Anwar.  I adore this man like i adore the previous women. He is the first director that amazed me through his film, Janji Joni (Joni's Promise). He can direct well as well as writing an enlightening script. He is also a hard worker as you can see the journey from his film. That he never stops to create a good film that will touch Indonesian watcher's heart. He has unique and different personality than other Great people in this country.

                                                     Joko Anwar's Movies

His New Film: Modus Anomali (2012)

Well, this is my opinion about Indonesia Great people. For sure, there are many superb people out there who does the best in their own field. But, once again, this is my own perspective ;)

Anyway, based on Irwan Ahmett's play number 7, "It's hard to live in Jakarta but it is even harder to leave from here." Yes, it's hard to live in Jakarta or Indonesia but it's harder to move or leave to other country. Love you, my country, Indonesia. x)

Andai Aku Menjadi Ketua KPK Maka Aku Akan Minum Obat PKP..

1.  Upaya pencegahan korupsi

Lingkup keluarga

Lingkup Pekerjaan

Lingkup masyarakat

a. Sosialisasi anti korupsi

      3. Upaya penanggulangan korupsi

Chandini
