Me and HAI (Part 3)

So, this is the conversation between me and Mas Ilham, the photographer of HAI. We were on the bus going back to home.

Mas Ilham: So, do you wanna know what TV Company which appreciates the employers?

Me: Yes..what?

Mas Ilham: Metro TV.

Me: Really? I thought it’s SCTV, RCTI,..

Mas Ilham: No, not them. Not SCTV, RCTI, Trans TV,..it’s Metro TV.

Me: Oh, I see. I thought..

Mas Ilham: But if you wanna get the better one.. What’s your field? Multimedia, right? Go to Kompas TV.

Me: Yes. Why?

Mas Ilham: It’s a good company even though it’s new. The salary can reach 5 million rupiahs.

Me: WOW! It’s a lot.. I was going to go there..my friend  worked as intern for selecting the new employee and I got her email. But I didn’t send my CV cuz she said it’s close already.

Mas Ilham: Just give it a shot..

Me: Yeah..if only I applied..  But I like to work at HAI..is it always all of you are relax every day?

Mas Ilham: Yeah..not always..in meeting we are serious but during work we try to enjoy..

Me: Yeah.. I like that.. It’s like you have no burden.. and I don’t feel like working..

Mas Ilham: Yeah.. Did you know.. Actually the type of magazine itself influences the people inside..

Me: Mm-hm..

Mas Ilham: Cuz we’re youth magazine then we tend to act like teenagers..chill, relax, enjoy. It influences our personality and habit at work. Like Nova..it’s a magazine for women that most of the content is about gossips of celebrities.. it influences the workers as well.. they tend to gossip during every day working..

Me: Mm-hm..Ya..

Mas Ilham: But the highest salary is for Nova’s employers. It’s still the number one in Jalan Panjang Group. The second is HAI.

Me: Wow..really?

Mas Ilham: Yes.. but last year HAI reaches the highest selling point. We had barbeque at the backyard.  (Grin)

Me: Cool..(smile)

Mas Ilham: I tell you..if you wanna work in printing media company..Kompas Gramedia is the best in Indonesia..Nothing compares..

Me: Mm-hmm..Ya..

Mas Ilham: But now the era has changed the journalism world.. it is not like before now..

Me: What do you mean?

Mas Ilham: Yeah..before you can do anything with the content. The editorial staff will decide first what to put as the content.. But now..the advertising team chooses first..

Me: Why?

Mas Ilham: Cuz now..if there is no advertisement in magazine there won’t be any benefit.. if there’s no benefit..no salary.. we can’t get money..

Me: Hoo.. (round face)

Mas Ilham: Before..the editorial staff can decide what to put inside.. I don’t want this column for advertisement.. I want it as the article..to give knowledge for readers..

Me:  Hoo..

Mas Ilham: But now you can’t do that again.. the advertisement holds the decision making..

Me: Hoo.. (nodding)

So, that’s all the conversation about the magazine and journalism world. Mas Ilham and I live close to each other. I usually go back home with him. I miss this time when we were waiting of the stupid-turtle-bus and nothing to do than just chatting. Thank you for being a company, Mas!
